Bakers Rack

Bakers’ Racks in Modern Kitchens

by guestpost on April 30, 2010

A standard bakers’ rack used to be a wrought iron rack for cooling cakes and breads. That’s how it got its name. Today, just like any piece of furniture, bakers’ racks have evolved and come in various appealing designs. They are used mostly for storage of kitchen utensils, flours, spices and condiments.

You can also buy bakers’ racks with cabinets, drawers and countertops. Yes, you can use the countertop for mixing your dough and for other kitchen chores such as chopping and slicing.  If you want to use the countertop for appliances such as microwaves or toasters, or as a cooling surface for cakes and pastries, see to it that it is made of heat-resistant material.

Bakers Rack: Keeping them Clean

by guestpost on March 23, 2010

A baker’s rack is a lovely addition to the kitchen, however they can attract grease, dust and crud. Keeping them clean can be a major chore, especially if they are very ornate or made of certain types of materials. Opt for a bakers rack with a matte finish that will not show as much of the dust and other grime. To repel some of the dust, use a furniture polish to protect the surface about once a week or consider painting the rack with a coating of silicone or other protective material to cut down on the amount of cleaning you have to do.

Light Bakers Racks

by guestpost on February 15, 2010

Nice bakers racks can fill an empty corner in beauty and of course be useful for cooling your baking. They come in a bunch of styles, but are all mainly designed with a counter shelf, large shelves on the bottom, and a nice top part of wrought iron, sometimes including ornate decoration, with shallower shelves.

What bakers racks all have in common is that they look airy and light, always open at the back, while offering lots of neat storage. They are sometimes custom-made for wine bottles or wicker baskets. If you have an empty space on a kitchen wall but don’t want to make your kitchen look cramped, find one in the right size and enjoy its look and functionality.

Bakers Rack: Not Just for Bakers

by guestpost on January 14, 2010

A good baker’s rack is not just for those who are baking royalty. You can use a good baker’s rack for more than just pots and pans and it does not have to be only in the kitchen. For instance, you can use it in a sunny room to hold groupings of plants, or in a nook to hold treasured belongings. You can even bring it into the bathroom to hold towels, soaps and other items for a unique but useful storage method. Regardless of where it is, the rack you choose can be both beautiful and useful at the same time.

Bakers racks- perfect for extra storage space

by guestpost on December 10, 2009

Bakers racks are great for kitchens that need some extra storage space but do not detract from the aesthetic quality of your home.  If you’re looking for something to enhance your kitchen design and give you practical storage options, take a look at some of the many styles of bakers racks on the market.  Many bakers racks have an old-time touch that evokes the image of European cottages.  These are perfect for homes with a rustic feel to them and can create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.  They look especially appropriate in kitchens with wood stoves.  You can use these bakers racks to display antiques or other decorative cookware.  Wrought iron, unpainted wood and wicker are some elements of bakers racks that create an Old World feel.  For an extra homey feel, find a bakers rack made from weathered wood.  Weathered wood has a very rustic feel and looks good with copper and iron details.  Most rustic bakers racks also look great with bunches of dried flowers and herbs hanging from them.  Bakers racks are a practical and attractive option when it comes to home decoration.  If you’re considering buying one, check out some of the great rustic styles of bakers racks.

Bakers racks are a great option

by guestpost on October 26, 2009

Bakers racks are a great option for those looking to save some space in their kitchen but still want to maintain their kitchen’s decorative integrity.  But if you’re a first time buyer, you may want to consider a few factors before you jump into purchasing a bakers rack.  First, you’re going to have to measure your space very carefully.  Bakers racks tend to be tall and narrow so make sure you know all the dimensions of your room before you purchase one.  Bakers racks are a good way to save space in the right setting but can be cumbersome if you haven’t carefully considered how one will fit in your home.  There are, however, a wide range in the sizes of bakers racks.  A very large, grand bakers rack can look fantastic in spacious kitchens, whereas a small one can look out of place.  There are also many styles of bakers racks, due to their growing popularity.  The traditional wood and iron designs still exist but there are now many others to choose from.  If you have a very sleek, contemporary kitchen, there is probably a bakers rack that will fit your décor.  Think about color, shape and materials when considering which style of bakers rack will fit best in your home.  Bakers racks can be very useful, great looking pieces of furniture if you choose one carefully.

Despite their name, bakers racks are not only for the kitchen any more.  Traditionally used by bakers to cool pies, breads and other baked goods, these racks have become a more decorative item that is great for display in the kitchen, dining room or living room.  Generally rising above five feet, bakers racks are perfect for home with tall ceilings and little floor space.  While modern designs tend to incorporate ornate wrought iron and wood, there are some bakers racks that have a simpler, sleeker design.  They are perfect for displaying decorative plates and vases, flower arrangements, storing wine bottles and even serving as a buffet at informal dinner parties.  Some less ornate bakers racks can serve a more practical purpose as a place to store mixing bowls and spoons, baking dishes, cookbooks and jars of flour, sugar and baking powder.  If this is a style you’re interested in, look for designs that include cabinets, drawers, hooks and multiple shelves.  Other designs are more appropriate for a living room setting.  Some of these are all wrought iron, with a few shelves.  They make great places for houseplants, especially climbing vines.  They can also double as bookshelves.  Whatever your needs, bakers racks can be just the versatile piece of furniture you’re looking for.
